Curiosity has been my life-long friend. It has led me to spectacular people,
places and experiences. This picture of four leaves was my first experience of the man I married, Dennis Brokaw. Never
before had I seen such exquisite detail, something from nature so beautifully seen. My first thought: "How generous." But
it was only because he had devoted so much of his adult life to landscape color photography that he was able
to capture those moments when light and subject were perfect, and because he knew his craft that was he able to
be so "generous." His patience was rewarded with a moment in time. His skill recreated it for us
that we might experience it the way he saw it.
More than the most interesting person I've ever known, he is also the most
interested in life, turning curiosity into knowledge, savoring discoveries and teaching me to enjoy all it has to offer.
His expression: tutto mangiare, eat all the good things, informs the day. He taught me to cherish life,
and that love is forever.
The greatest joy in my life has been our daughter, Abigail, arriving late
in our lives healthy, vibrant and full of joy. Her name means "my father is joy." We cherish every moment with her.
She follows her own curiosity: every child's birthright.
